InterventionsBeyond Victims and Villains Beyond victims and villains audio-drama

The BVV audio-drama

A depiction of the characters in the BVV audio-drama

The audio-drama is based on evidence from large-large scale school surveys in South Africa, updated with country-specific evidence from Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland from a survey in 2007.

The premise of the BVV audio-drama is a radio phone-in programme presented by a social worker. This lady is visited by a CIET researcher at her home and becomes interested in the CIET research, so invites the field worker and the CIET executive director onto her programme to explain and discuss their research findings. The eight episodes cover different aspects of gender, gender violence, choice disability, sexual behaviour, and related HIV risk.

The eight episodes are:

Episode 1: Understanding sexual violence
Episode 2: The culture of sexual violence
Episode 3: Not all men rape
Episode 4: When victims become villains
Episode 5: Cool teens, cold reality
Episode 6: Sexual violence and HIV risk
Episode 7: Choice disability and HIV
Episode 8: Transactional sex and HIV

Country-specific versions of the BVV audio-drama are available for Botswana (in Setswana), in Namibia (in English, Afrikaans, Oshiwambo, Rukwangali, Otjiherero, SiLozi, and Damaranama), and in Swaziland (in SiSwati).
